Summitview, Washington — Community Stretched Along the Road

Summitview extends west from Yakima along Summitview Avenue and the road corridor carrying the same name.

There was never one dramatic town center. Orchards, farms, homes and businesses accumulated along the route connecting rural properties with Yakima.

Irrigation made fruit production practical across the western valley. Later, metropolitan growth filled portions of that agricultural corridor with subdivisions and commercial development.

Working orchards can still sit surprisingly close to suburban neighborhoods.

That mixture gives Summitview its shape. It is long rather than centralized, tied to Yakima without being fully absorbed by it.

The community grew along the road people were already using, one property at a time.
