Gleed, Washington — Where Subdivisions Meet the Orchards

Gleed occupies Yakima's western edge, where suburban streets and working orchards still share the same view.

Irrigation made intensive fruit production possible across ground that would otherwise be far drier. For generations, trees and farm roads organized the landscape west of Yakima. Housing later arrived parcel by parcel rather than all at once, leaving neighborhoods beside rows of fruit.

That overlap is now the community's defining feature. Gleed remains unincorporated even though daily life is closely tied to Yakima, and its outer edges can change from residential to agricultural in the length of a block.

Look one direction and Gleed feels suburban. Turn around and somebody is still growing the landscape that came first.
