Uniontown, Washington — Dairy Barn Became an Art Center

Uniontown's best-known cultural landmark began as a working dairy barn.

Built in 1935, the large structure served commercial agriculture before decades of quieter use.

The Dahmen family eventually donated it for community redevelopment.

The barn became an arts center with studios, exhibits and events.

That conversion fits Uniontown better than it might first appear.

The town remains surrounded by Palouse agriculture but sits within reach of Pullman, Moscow, Lewiston and Clarkston, connecting a small farm community with university and regional cultural life.

Historic buildings, including St. Boniface Catholic Church, add another layer.

Uniontown did not abandon agriculture for art.

It put both inside the same barn.
