Daisy, Washington — Columbia Changed Underneath the Community

Daisy developed above the Columbia when farms, ranches, ferries and river landings organized travel through southern Stevens County. The free-flowing river below looked and behaved very differently from the broad water visible today.

Grand Coulee Dam replaced that corridor with Lake Roosevelt. Old shorelines disappeared, crossings changed and a reservoir economy of fishing and boating grew over geography earlier residents would have recognized as river country.

Daisy remained along State Route 25 through the transformation. Its relationship with the Columbia never ended; the terms simply changed. The community stayed on the hillside while one of the Northwest's defining rivers became something new below it.
