Arden, Washington — Community Fitted Into the Colville Valley

Arden sits south of Colville along the Colville River corridor.

The valley floor offered what the surrounding hills could not: relatively easy ground for farms, roads and homes. Timber work spread into the forested uplands, giving residents access to two different rural economies within a short distance.

Transportation naturally followed the same north-south route. As roads improved and Colville grew, the larger city absorbed more shopping and services that small communities once needed nearby.

Arden stayed residential and rural, and its location still makes immediate sense. The community is where the valley gives people room to build, farm and travel before the hills begin taking that room back.
