Waverly, Washington — School Was Built for a Bigger Future

Waverly's substantial brick school looks almost oversized beside the small Spokane County town around it.

Agriculture and rail transportation built Waverly, while schools and businesses served households scattered across the surrounding countryside.

Then farms consolidated, automobiles made larger towns easier to reach and school districts centralized students elsewhere.

The building outlived the educational system that created it.
