Newport, Washington — Idaho Is Across the Street

Newport sits directly on the Washington-Idaho line.

Cross it and the community becomes Oldtown.

Railroads created modern Newport around the turn of the twentieth century, while timber made it a commercial center for forest country on both sides of the border.

Newport became the Pend Oreille County seat when the county was created in 1911.

Oldtown remained in Idaho.
