Brewster sits where the Okanogan River reaches the Columbia, a junction important for travel, fishing and trade long before the modern town existed.

Irrigation later transformed dry benches around the confluence into orchard country.

Apples and other tree fruit tied Brewster to packing houses, seasonal labor and markets far beyond north-central Washington.
