Sprague Lake, Washington — Lake Community With an Interstate Exit

Sprague Lake occupies a long natural basin in the dry country along the Lincoln-Adams county area.

Fishing, wildlife and open water made the lake an obvious focus for recreation. Homes, resorts and rural properties followed the shoreline rather than gathering around a town square.

Then Interstate 90 made the place unusually accessible.

A lake community can feel isolated while sitting directly beside the main highway between Spokane and central Washington.

That combination shapes Sprague Lake today: open agricultural country, a broad shallow lake and a freeway carrying people past at seventy miles an hour.

The water provides the destination. The interstate makes getting there almost suspiciously easy.
