Cascade Valley, Washington — Moses Lake Kept Growing Past the City Line

Cascade Valley looks like part of Moses Lake because, in everyday life, much of it is.

Streets, houses and errands continue outward with little visual announcement that the incorporated city has ended. Residential growth simply moved onto county land faster than municipal boundaries moved with it.

That growth came after an earlier transformation of the Columbia Basin. Federal irrigation projects first made intensive agriculture possible across dry ground; later, industry, food processing and aviation helped expand the Moses Lake economy enough that some of that land became more valuable for houses.

Cascade Valley belongs to that second conversion—from desert to farm country, then from farm country to suburb.

The street does not care which government maintains the paperwork. The boundary is real; the neighborhood mostly ignores it.
