Mayview belongs to Garfield County farm country where community has long been organized across miles rather than blocks.

Wheat fields and ranches spread households across the prairie, so shared schools, churches, roads and neighbors historically mattered more than a compact business district.

Mechanized agriculture later allowed fewer people to work more acreage, small schools consolidated and more errands shifted toward Pomeroy. The Mayview name remained attached to the inhabited district.

Its blocks happen to be farm roads and fields. That does not make the neighborhood less real; it simply makes the scale distinctly rural.
