Coles Corner, Washington — Intersection Does the Work of Main Street

Coles Corner exists because two mountain roads meet at exactly the place a great many travelers need to make a decision.

U.S. 2 carries Stevens Pass traffic through the Cascades, while the turn toward Lake Wenatchee and Plain sends residents, skiers, campers and hikers into another network of mountain destinations. Businesses and homes cluster around that intersection rather than a conventional street grid.

Seasonal traffic can make the locality feel much larger than its permanent footprint, particularly when recreation pulls people toward the lake, trails or ski country.
