Waha, Idaho — Lake on the Prairie Above Lewiston

Waha sits high above Lewiston, where the upland prairie feels dramatically different from the low, warm Snake and Clearwater river valleys below.

Farms, pasture and forest patches surround Waha Lake, while steep grades connect the community with the city.

Elevation changes more than the view. Winter arrives differently, temperatures run cooler and a short distance on a map can involve a substantial climb.

The lake became a focus for homes and recreation, but the wider district remains rural.

Waha is close enough to Lewiston for ordinary trips and far enough above it to feel like another landscape entirely. The canyon wall does most of the separating.
