Viola, Idaho — Where the Palouse Meets Moscow Mountain

Viola sits north of Moscow at the point where rolling Palouse farmland begins giving way to the wooded foothills of Moscow Mountain.

That boundary gives the community its character. Wheat fields occupy the open ground while forest climbs the nearby slopes, putting agriculture and timber country within the same view.

Viola developed around farms, roads and access to northern Latah County. More recently, residential growth has added people who can live rurally while commuting to Moscow or Pullman.

That proximity changes the economics. Two university towns sit within easy driving distance, bringing employment and research institutions unusually close to a small unincorporated community.

Viola remains rural, but not remote—the Palouse is on one side, the mountain is on the other, and two universities are just down the road.
