Sinclair lies in Boundary County's Kootenai Valley, where farms stretch across level ground between mountain ranges.

The valley's scale can make a small locality nearly disappear. Fields, roads and scattered houses occupy distances that would contain several neighborhoods in a city.

Sinclair never needed to become another town center. It remained part of the inhabited agricultural pattern around it.
