Sagle, Idaho — Sandpoint Is Just Across the Long Bridge

Sagle lies south of Sandpoint on the other side of Lake Pend Oreille.

For modern residents, the Long Bridge is the piece of infrastructure that makes the geography work. U.S. 95 crosses the lake there, carrying commuters, freight and travelers between Sagle and Sandpoint.

Before residential growth accelerated, timber, farms and scattered rural homes defined much of the area south of the lake. Better highway access made that land increasingly practical for people whose jobs and errands were centered in Sandpoint.

Subdivisions and businesses followed without producing an incorporated city.

Sagle is still partly rural and partly exurban, with the lake providing a dramatic separation that the bridge turns into an ordinary commute.
