Coolin, Idaho — Priest Lake's Village at the Water's Edge

Coolin sits at the southern end of Priest Lake near the outlet, where road access and shoreline naturally created a gathering point.

Visitors were coming for fishing and scenery by the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Hotels, cabins and services appeared near the water.

Tourism proved durable.

Seasonal cabins gradually mixed with year-round homes, while boats and vacation traffic make summer Coolin feel considerably larger than winter Coolin.

The settlement never needed to grow into a major town because the lake itself supplied the destination.

Coolin is essentially Priest Lake's front porch: a small village positioned where people first arrive at the water.
