Willard, Idaho — Community With a State Line Running Through It

Willard sits southwest of Tensed in the farm country along the Idaho-Washington border. The peculiar part is that the border does not politely stop at the edge of the community.

The Willard locality extends across the state line. Tekoa, Washington, is only a few miles away, and the roads and farms on either side belong to the same everyday rural landscape even though two state governments divide it on paper.

That matters more here than it would in a trivia question. Property rules, courts, law enforcement and legal procedure can change while the wheat field outside the window looks exactly the same.

Willard is a useful reminder that political geography is something humans draw over physical geography. The road keeps going. So do the farms. Somewhere along the way, Idaho simply becomes Washington.
