Plummer Junction, Idaho — Name Tells You Why It Exists

Plummer Junction developed where transportation routes serving Plummer and the surrounding Coeur d'Alene Reservation needed to meet.

The name is almost an instruction rather than a mystery.

Railroads once carried timber, agricultural products and passengers through northern Idaho, connecting reservation prairie with forests and larger regional markets.

Roads later took over much of the everyday movement, while Plummer became the stronger municipal center.

The junction name remained attached to the surrounding locality.

Searching for a lost civic square would miss the point. Plummer Junction was defined by connection from the beginning: a place important because routes came together there.
