Pedee, Idaho — Rural Community on Coeur d'Alene Reservation Land

Pedee lies in Benewah County within the broader landscape of the Coeur d'Alene Reservation.

Prairie agriculture and scattered homes define the modern community more than stores or civic buildings. The land itself carries the more complicated history.

Federal allotment policies divided reservation lands into individual parcels and enabled substantial transfers into non-Native ownership. The result is a patchwork in which tribal and non-tribal properties can sit near one another inside the same reservation boundaries.

Pedee remained a small rural locality through those changes.

That makes it a useful reminder that reservation geography is not simply a colored shape on a map. It is lived-in country, with farms, roads, families and layers of ownership history occupying the same prairie.
