Omega, Idaho — Where St. Maries Gives Way to Timber Country

Omega sits east of St. Maries, only a few miles from the county seat but already moving into a different Benewah County landscape.

The broad river-valley setting around St. Maries tightens as roads head toward the St. Joe country. Forest becomes more dominant, houses spread farther apart and the terrain starts doing more of the planning.

Omega developed in that transition rather than around a conventional business district. St. Maries remained close enough to provide schools, government and commerce, so there was little reason to duplicate those institutions in a tiny forest locality.

The short distance on the map can be deceptive. Omega is close to town, but it belongs to the moment when town starts becoming woods.
