Mowry, Idaho — Cluster of Homes West of Plummer

Mowry is small enough that it would be easy to mistake the name for a historical leftover. Benewah County's own wildfire planning says otherwise.

County planners identify Mowry as an unincorporated population cluster—a real group of homes outside the incorporated cities. That matters in a landscape where residences can be separated by farms, timber and enough acreage to make a “neighborhood” look unusually spacious.

Mowry lies west of Plummer within the broader Coeur d'Alene Reservation landscape. The modern pattern of tribal and non-tribal land ownership reflects the complicated legacy of federal allotment, while agriculture and forest still shape the ground around the homes.

No downtown is hiding out there. There are neighbors, roads and households spread across reservation country, which is a much more accurate description of what Mowry actually is.
